MND-B Soldiers kill five criminals
BAGHDAD – Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldiers killed five criminals in eastern Baghdad April 21.
An aerial weapons team engaged two criminals with rocket-propelled grenade launchers at approximately 9 p.m. The AWT fired one hellfire missile at the criminals, killing them both and destroying the RPG launchers.
At approximately 10 p.m., Soldiers from 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, conducting a route-clearing mission were struck with an improvised explosive device. Soldiers were then attacked with small-arms fire by criminals in the area.
Soldiers returned fire and killed three criminals.
One terrorist killed, 23 suspects detained in operations against al-Qaeda
BAGHDAD – Coalition forces killed one terrorist, detained 23 suspects and discovered homemade explosives during a series of operations Monday and Tuesday targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq.
In a synchronized effort triggered by intelligence from an operation April 12, Coalition forces descended on targets in Salah ad Din province to disrupt AQI foreign terrorist leadership. As the operation in Sharqat began, one man rushed Coalition forces, who responded to the hostile threat by engaging and killing the suspected terrorist. Coalition forces also found weapons inside the building and uncovered 65 pounds of homemade explosives, which were safely destroyed on site. The coordinated operations seized 21 individuals with alleged ties to the AQI foreign terrorist network.
During a precision operation in Kirkuk, Iraqi and Coalition forces detained one suspected terrorist believed to be associated with the AQI network in the city.
MND-N Soldiers kill six insurgents in fire fight
BAQUBAH, Iraq – Multi-National Division – North Soldiers killed six insurgents in a fire fight near a mosque in Kalaf Al-Hasun village, Diyala province April 21.
During a cordon and search of the village, approximately 20 km southeast of Hamrin Lake, a truck loaded with several personnel carrying AK-47s and rocketpropelled grenade launchers approached the position of 4th Platoon, Troop F, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment.
The Soldiers fired a warning shot to halt the vehicle.
The personnel in the truck fired on them.
The Soldiers returned fire on the vehicle, and the passengers ran into nearby buildings, including a nearby mosque.
Two individuals appeared from the courtyard of the mosque and assumed a kneeling position as if to surrender.
As a dismounted element approached the two individuals to detain them, numerous enemy riflemen ambushed the Soldiers from a nearby house with AK-47s and grenades.
The Soldiers immediately returned fire in the direction of the house, killing six.
Three suspects were also detained in the incident.
MND-B Soldiers kill 15 criminals
BAGHDAD – Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers engaged and killed 15 criminals in separate engagements in Baghdad April 22.
At approximately 6:15 p.m., Soldiers from 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, witnessed a criminal emplacing an improvised explosive device in northeast Baghdad. Soldiers shot and killed the criminal.
Unmanned aerial vehicle operators from 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, spotted two individuals with a mortar tube. They loaded the weapon into a vehicle and drove off in northeastern Baghdad at approximately 7:25 p.m. At approximately 8:50 p.m., the UAV fired one hellfire missile, killing two criminals and destroying one vehicle.
At approximately 7:45 p.m., Soldiers from 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, attached to 3rd BCT, 4th Inf. Div., engaged and killed one criminal after coming under a small-arms fire in northeastern Baghdad.
Soldiers from 3rd BCT, 4th Inf., Div., were attacked with an IED by criminals while they were conducting a mounted patrol in eastern Baghdad at approximately 9:45 p.m. Soldiers were then attacked with rocket-propelled grenades. Soldiers identified the criminals’ location and engaged them with small-arms fire, killing six criminals.Soldiers from 3rd BCT, 4th Inf., Div., were attacked with RPGs at approximately 9:50 p.m. in eastern Baghdad. Soldiers identified two separate RPG teams and returned fire, killing five criminals.
Coalition forces target al-Qaeda in Iraq networks; one killed, five detained
BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition forces killed one terrorist and detained five suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorists today during operations to disrupt al-Qaeda in Iraq networks operating north of Mosul.
Information from an operation April 12 led Coalition forces to a location where they secured a building and detained three suspected terrorists. Acting on additional intelligence, Coalition forces proceeded to a second location. While securing the building, two individuals displayed hostile intent toward Coalition forces, who fired in self-defense, wounding both men. One suspect was taken to a military medical facility, and the other wounded suspect was treated on site and detained.
Coalition forces followed a suspected terrorist in a vehicle to an area northwest of Samarra. When the driver would not follow signals to stop, including warning shots, Coalition forces fired into the vehicle. The vehicle stopped, and secondary explosions erupted from inside, indicating weapons, ammunition or explosives inside the vehicle. The terrorist in the vehicle was killed.
