Is Hillary Trying To Steal The Election?

Yeah, I know. Hard to believe, isn't it? *cough* It seems she doesn't like to play fair.

Hillary Clinton has issued a call to retroactively seat the delegates from Michigan and Florida that were ousted for holding their primaries earlier than allowed. She does so in the language of party unity:

“I believe our nominee will need the enthusiastic support of Democrats in these states to win the general election, and so I will ask my Democratic convention delegates to support seating the delegations from Florida and Michigan. I know not all of my delegates will do so and I fully respect that decision. But I hope to be President of all 50 states and U.S. territories, and that we have all 50 states represented and counted at the Democratic convention."

Of course, this is complicated somewhat by the fact that she ran unopposed in Michigan — because her opponents followed the rules and took their names off the ballot and she did not — and is expected to win Florida easily.

She has no qualms about violating campaign finance laws either.

Git Yer Iran U.N. Sanctions Here

Yippee!

New U.N. sanctions against Iran would require countries to ban the entry of individuals involved in the Iranian nuclear program — a step up from a previous call for vigilance over their travel, according to a document obtained Friday.

The latest round of penalties would also for the first time ban trade in equipment and technology that can be used in both civilian and nuclear programs, according to elements that would form the basis of a new U.N. resolution.

It would call on countries to inspect cargo heading to or from Iran "provided there are reasonable grounds to believe" that prohibited goods are being transported, the document obtained by The Associated Press said.

The five veto-wielding members of the council — the U.S., Britain, France, China and Russia — along with Germany, agreed this week on the basic terms of the resolution. Diplomats have said the full, 15-nation Security Council will likely approve it next month.

The six global powers offered Iran a package of economic incentives and political rewards in June 2006 if it agreed to freeze uranium enrichment before talks on its nuclear program. But Iran has refused despite two previous sets of U.N. sanctions.

The new proposal would freeze the assets of additional individuals and entities involved in Iran's nuclear activities that were not identified.

It calls on all countries "to exercise vigilance" in entering into new financial commitments with Iraq, including the granting of export credits, guarantees or insurance. It also calls for "vigilance" over financial dealings with Iranian-based banks, "in particular with Bank Melli and Bank Saderat, and their branches and subsidiaries abroad."

House Minority Leader Boehner On How To Right The GOP Ship

Granted, there is a lot to be fixed. But, this is one of the ways to make an immediate impact. I guess a lot of Conservative Republicans need to sit down and figure out if it can be fixed or abandon ship.

House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) challenged House Republicans to make a few sacrifices in the next year that will help the GOP sell their agenda to voters in the fall elections.

The Republican leader is scheduled to lead his members in a broad, potentially rancorous debate over lawmaker-requested projects Friday during their annual retreat here.

The reform proposals include a one-year moratorium on earmarks for all Republicans, the creation of a special panel to review the process, including the abuses that have occurred, and a litany of smaller guidelines to curtail wasteful earmarks or member-requested projects that benefit campaign contributors or other private entities.

Why Are Conservatives Betrayed?

The 2008 primary election process has clearly been unfair to conservative candidates, and here's why. Several liberal and moderate/independent states chose to hold their primary elections and caucuses early, all wanting to be first — so they said. But look at what has happened as a result. Conservative candidates like Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter have been drummed out of the race by breaking their bank accounts in non conservative states before the rest of the country ever had a chance to vote for them. Is this what we call "fair and democratic elections"?

These are supposed to be national elections, not independent state elections. By allowing some states to hold primaries before others gives those states the advantage to propel or retard the individual campaigns depending on the political landscape of those few states. As we are now seeing, when liberal and moderate states hold early elections, conservative candidates have no chance of ever making it into the general election or winning the presidency.

I was checking my Sitemeter stats today, and came across an entry from the Palestinian Territory, Occupied. On Statcounter, the same entry was labeled as from Israel. Sitemeter must be owned by Muslims.

This is the blog post they were viewing, Internet Buzzing Over Mystery Weapon Found In Iraq. It's from Feb. 17, 2007. They should have viewed this post also. I bet they would've had a blast.

Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee?!

I haven't seen anything official yet. I get email updates from Hunter's campaign and haven't received one with an endorsement, so my head hasn't exploded yet. If it is official, I'm staying home election day.

If he did endorse Huckabee, it's quite perplexing on why he would. Huckabee will be out of the race within the next month, he's broke, so I cannot see any reasoning (VP, cabinet position) to endorse him. Huckabee has only a few Conservative values. Maybe Hunter thought Huckabee was better than the remaining candidates? I would have to disagree. I'm not endorsing anyone here, but if someone held a gun to my head and forced me to vote, it would be for Romney. I just threw up in my mouth with that statement, but such is the state of the Republican party.

I suppose the endorsement could be just because Huckabee was a nice guy, which I don't doubt. It's his policies I disagree with.

It looks more and more like a Romney/McCain or McCain/Romney ticket. I'm sure they could beat the Democrat nominee, but at what cost to Conservatives?

I'm thinking Conservatives should break away and form a new political party. I'm tired of holding my nose and voting for the lesser of two evils. I want to vote for a candidate that reflects my beliefs. I've looked into the Constitution party, they have most of my political ideology, but I disagree with their abortion stance. They feel all abortion should be illegal. I think the exceptions should be rape and incest.

The Conservative Party of America sounds good. The logo would be a muscle bound elephant holding a severed donkey head. Yeah, that's it.

"Republican" Presidential Field Narrows, Fred! Drops Out

This wasn't entirely a surprise. Looks like Giuliani and Huckabee will be the next candidates to withdraw. That would leave Romney, McCain, & Paul. Hooray for Conservatives. UGH!

Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson quit the Republican presidential race on Tuesday, after a string of poor finishes in early primary and caucus states.

"Today, I have withdrawn my candidacy for president of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort," Thompson said in a statement.

Thompson's fate was sealed last Saturday in the South Carolina primary, when he finished third in a state that he had said he needed to win.

In the statement, Thompson did not say whether he would endorse any of his former rivals. He was one of a handful of members of Congress who supported Arizona Sen. John McCain in 2000 in his unsuccessful race against George W. Bush for the party nomination.

Al-Qaeda Hobo, Jose Padilla Sentenced To 17 Years

The dirty bomber gets 17 years. The interesting part is, prosecutors wanted life in prison, but the judge decided on 17 years because of "harsh conditions" at the Navy brig. I doubt he was faced with the fear of being butt-raped in the Navy brig. That in itself should disqualify him for a shortened sentence.

Jose Padilla, once accused of plotting with al-Qaida to blow up a radioactive "dirty bomb," was sentenced Tuesday to 17 years and four months on terrorism conspiracy charges that don't mention those initial allegations.

The sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke marks another step in the extraordinary personal and legal odyssey for the 37-year-old Muslim convert, a U.S. citizen who was held for 3 1/2 years as an enemy combatant after his 2002 arrest amid the "dirty bomb" allegations.

Prosecutors had sought life in prison, but Cook said she arrived at the 17-year sentence after taking into consideration the "harsh conditions" during Padilla's lengthy military detention at a Navy brig in South Carolina.

"I do find that the conditions were so harsh for Mr. Padilla ... they warrant consideration in the sentencing in this case," the judge said.

Cooke also imposed prison terms on two other men of Middle Eastern origin who were convicted of conspiracy and material support charges along with Padilla in August. The three were part of a North American support cell for al-Qaida and other Islamic extremists around the world, prosecutors said.

ISOF, with U.S. Special Forces advisers, conducted the operation to detain a reported extremist commander who controlled the violent and criminal activities of ten extremist groups operating within Baghdad. The extremist leader and his criminal operation are implicated in attacks, murder, kidnappings and criminal activity against Iraqi Security Forces and Iraqi civilians. Credible intelligence indicates he and his group are responsible for the sectarian murder of several hundred Iraqi civilians in the past year.

The extremist is reported to have established a special extremist group that collects information which is used to target Iraqi Security Forces personnel for attack.

Upon entering the building where the extremist was located, a man ran from the assault force into another room. The assault force forced the door to the room open and entered to detain the man. In the course of his capture, the man was killed after he attempted to grab a weapon. The man was later identified as the wanted extremist commander.

Iran Cowers In Fear Of New U.N. Resolution

Ha! Yeah right. But anyways, it seems that a new resolution containing sanctions for Iran is in the works. I'm sure it will be just as effective as the other ones.

World power foreign ministers should agree on a new draft sanctions resolution against Iran at a meeting in Germany on January 22, a French diplomatic source said on Monday.

"The ministers should reach agreement tomorrow on a draft resolution to send to New York," the source said, declining to be named. "We are really very close to an agreement."

Foreign ministers from the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany are scheduled to meet in Berlin on Tuesday to discuss a possible third U.N. sanctions resolution against Iran for refusing to halt sensitive nuclear work.

Oliver Stone To Direct Movie About George W. Bush

I can only imagine what a piece of crap this movie will turn out to be.

Oliver Stone has set his sights on his next directing project, "Bush," a film focusing on the life and presidency of George W. Bush, and attached Josh Brolin to play the title role.

The director has begun quietly shopping a script by his "Wall Street" co-writer Stanley Weiser.

Pic will be produced by Moritz Borman, who teamed with Stone on "World Trade Center" and "Alexander," and Jon Kilik, a producer of "Alexander" as well as "Pinkville," the pre-strike project about the Army's investigation of the My Lai massacre in Vietnam that Stone expected to direct until United Artists pulled the plug late last year.

Borman said Weiser's script was completed before the WGA strike and was ready to shoot and that many of Stone's "Pinkville" crew jumped right into "Bush." If financing materializes quickly enough, the film could start production by April and could be in theaters for the election or the inauguration.

One need only Google the words "Stone" and "Bush" to find plenty of the director's critical comments about the Bush administration's invasion of Iraq. Despite that, the director said he's not looking to make an anti-Bush polemic. His goal is to use seminal events in Bush's life to explain how he came to power, using a structure comparable to "The Queen."
