I Don't Care!

I received this email today that describes exactly how I feel.

"Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001?

Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan, across the Potomac from our nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was "desecrated" when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet?...Well, I don't. I don't care at all.

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia

I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called "insurgents" in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.

I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.

When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college-hazing incident, rest assured: I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank: I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed "special" food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being "mishandled," you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts: I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled "Koran" and other times "Quran." Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and-you guessed it-I don't care !!

And may I add:

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:
1. Jesus Christ
2. The American G. I.

 AMEN!

Religion Of Peace Using Children As Suicide Bombers

Except the kids have no idea what's going on. I think it's become apparent that courage is not a prerequisite for becoming a RoP holy warrior. Those Taliban losers must really be pathetic if they need to use children to fight NATO soldiers. Looks like Allah has abandoned them.

Children as young as six are being used by the Taliban in increasingly desperate suicide missions, coalition forces in Afghanistan claimed yesterday.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), to which Britain contributes 5,000 troops in southern Afghanistan, revealed that soldiers defused an explosive vest which had been placed on a six-year-old who had been told to attack Afghan army forces in the east of the country.

The boy was spotted after appearing confused at a checkpoint. The vest was defused and no one was hurt.

The claim came only hours after the second report this week that civilians had been killed in NATO military operations.

[...]

Yesterday ISAF said it was investigating reports from the Afghan authorities that civilians had been killed. But it also accused the Taliban of using civilians as battleground cover, and said the incident with the boy signaled a new type of tactic. The boy had been ordered to target a check point in Miri, in the Andar district of Ghazni province.

"They placed explosives on a six-year-old boy and told him to walk up to the Afghan police or army and push the button," said Captain Michael Cormier, the company commander who intercepted the child, in a statement. "Fortunately, the boy did not understand and asked patrolling officers why he had this vest on."

Lieutenant Colonel David Accetta, ISAF eastern regional command spokesman, told the Guardian: "In the past we have not seen the Taliban sink that low, to use children as suicide bombers. The personnel secured the vest to make sure the child was safe."

Lt Col Accetta said the procedure for dealing with an armed minor had so far been untested in Afghanistan.

"It would have been difficult to know what to do considering it was a six-year-old boy and he was presumably going to push the button himself or someone was going to detonate it for him remotely," Lt Col Accetta said.

The rules of military engagement are easily muddied when a child poses a direct threat, he explained. "What we do if we identify the fact that an adult is wearing a suicide vest is we use whatever force we deem necessary to protect the lives of our soldiers and any civilians. Of course it makes it more difficult - it's a six year-old child."

Iran Has "Surge" In Iraq Also

They wouldn't want a democratic Iraq, that would give the Iranian people ideas.

BAGHDAD, June 22 (UPI) -- Iran has responded to the U.S. surge in Iraq with its own surge, the commander of the multinational force said Friday.

Lt. Gen. Ray Odierno told journalists increased Iranian backing for Iraqi militants apparently started in March, CNN reported.

"I think as we talked about surging forces ... I think maybe Iran decided to surge more money, conduct a bit more training and surge a few more weapons into Iraq at the same time," Odierno said.

Odierno said U.S. and Iraqi troops have been working on securing Diyala Province, which borders Iraq, and its capital, Baquba, to "cut those lines" from Iran.

The Iranian government has denied any efforts to supply forces in Iraq.

Can we please wipe them out? Daily bombing of the border should prevent them from coming across.

In the early morning hours, scouts from the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment raided a suspected insurgent location in an isolated farm house north of Saab al Bor, Iraq. All seven suspected insurgents were captured in the house.  The cell is believed to be responsible for planting IEDs on Highway 1 and other locations in the Taji area.

In Al Hitaween, a village in Abu Ghraib, Soldiers from Company A, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment conducted an air assault operation to conduct a cordon and search of several homes suspected of housing insurgents.

A resident, questioned at the scene, claimed his home had been taken over by insurgents, but they left when they heard the aircraft. At the home, a small cache was found, including a hand grenade and a pistol.
This operation was the first combat air assault mission performed by 2-5th Cavalry since the Vietnam War.

Operation Sledgehammer uncovers multiple mortars

‘Arrowhead Ripper’ continues to pressure al-Qaida

BAQOUBA, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces teamed with Task Force Lightning units, Thursday, to clear Baqouba and surrounding areas as Operation Arrowhead Ripper continued.

“We are shoulder-to-shoulder with Iraqi Security Forces in this fight,” said Brig. Gen. Mick Bednarek, deputy commanding general, operations, and commander of Operation Arrowhead Ripper.  “Specifically the 5th Iraqi Army Division led by Maj. Gen. Saleem Kariem Ali Alotbei, along with the provincial director of police, Maj. Gen. Ganim, have provided the Iraqi security forces to the fight.

The weeks ahead are absolutely key in not only holding and retaining the ground that is cleared in partnership with Coalition Forces, but also in building trust and confidence with the citizens of Diyala.”

In support of the operation, attack helicopters from 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Squadron, 82nd Attack Reconnaissance Battalion provided assistance to Iraqi and Coalition ground forces, killing at least 13 al-Qaida operatives and destroying an al-Qaida compound during the second day of the operation.

In a separate engagement, CF Soldiers discovered an empty school complex rigged with explosives in Baqouba, the capital city of Diyala province, Thursday, during Operation Arrowhead Ripper.

Soldiers of 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment discovered the booby-trapped school complex. An investigation of the area determined the school and surrounding buildings had been abandoned.

CF had to destroy the school due to risk to the community. CF were unable to disable the explosives because of instability. In the Khatoon neighborhood of Baqouba, ISF and CF discovered a building suspected of being used as a torture chamber. Ground forces observed various weapons, including knives and saws, inside the building as well as blood stains throughout the building. After securing the area, the building and its contents were destroyed by an attack helicopter armed with Hellfire missiles.

Also in Khatoon, CF destroyed two houses that contained 45 water heaters filled with homemade explosives, IED making materials and computer equipment. One of the houses also contained several booby trapped freezers.

U.S. attack helicopters armed with missiles killed 17 "al Qaeda gunmen" Friday in and around a village southwest of Khalis, a volatile town in the province, the U.S. military said.

The military said the attack was part of Operation Arrowhead Ripper, the anti-insurgent offensive going on in and around Baquba, Diyala's provincial capital.

On Friday, attack helicopters spotted a group of armed men trying to avoid police and sneak into the village, the statement said.

Earlier, the U.S. military reported that through Thursday, troops had killed 51 al Qaeda militants in Baquba.

MND-B SOLDIERS CAPTURE SUSPECTED BOMB-MAKER, 13 OTHERS

CAMP TAJI, Iraq - Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldiers captured a suspected member of an alleged bomb-making cell in Sab al Bor, Iraq June 19.

Soldiers from Battery C, 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery, attached to the 1st  Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, captured the suspect using information from intelligence sources. In all, the unit detained 14 suspects for questioning during the operation.

The raid was part of a large-scale, sector-wide initiative to eliminate threats to Coalition and Iraqi Security Forces, and to curb violence in the area north of the Iraqi capital.

3-1 CAV. SEIZES MULTIPLE CACHES NEAR JISR DIYALA

FORWARD OPERATING BASE HAMMER, Iraq - Soldiers from Company D, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, who are currently attached to 3rd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, seized multiple caches June 17 near Tuwaitha as a part of Coalition Forces' efforts to eliminate insurgent sanctuaries southeast of Baghdad.

The unit conducted Operation Destroyer Strike based on intelligence gathered from local citizens.  The operation was a part of a larger effort, Operation Marne Torch, being conducted by Multi-National Division-Center.

Troops cleared two target locations to seize caches and disrupt insurgent activity. Four individuals were detained attempting to flee at the first objective.  One of the detainees is suspected of making road-side bombs for Al Qaeda, while another provided additional information on cache sites.

Thomas further explained that the intelligence led to six additional searches and the detention of a suspected sniper believed to be working for the Mahdi Army.

Capt. Brian Gilbert, Co. D commander, of Boise, Idaho, was in command of all Soldiers in the operation, and has almost daily contact with local leaders and members of the city council. Gilbert spoke with local citizens and city council members following the operation.

Gilbert explained that the first objective was a large farm. Its owner was killed by Al Qaeda, according to local citizens, who also claim that Al Qaeda fighters used the farm as a training area.

Items found in the cache included 54 mortar rounds, two artillery rounds, 29 cell phones, 29 nine-volt battery connectors and more than 20 circuit boards - all commonly used in the manufacturing of improvised explosive devices. Four rockets, five AK-47 assault rifles, a .50-caliber machine gun, and Iraqi Security Forces' body armor were also found.

The 3-1 Cav. and the 1-15 Inf. are assigned to the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, from Fort Benning, Ga.

MNC-I CONDUCTS OPERATION PHANTOM THUNDER

BAGHDAD – Multi-National Corps-Iraq launched major offensive operations, Operation Phantom Thunder, June 16 in a powerful crackdown to defeat extremists in Iraq.

With the surge of U.S. forces complete, simultaneous operations throughout Iraq are focused on rooting out al-Qaeda terrorists and other extremist elements in order to provide security and stability for all Iraqis.

This coordinated effort includes Operation Arrowhead Ripper aimed at eliminating terrorists operating around Baquoba and the Diyala province.  The operation has killed at least 30 al-Qaeda terrorists and netted numerous caches containing assault weapons, grenades, rocket launchers and large and small caliber ammunition and explosives.

Operation Fardh al-Qanoon in Baghdad continues to hunt elements of al-Qaeda and illegal militias.  These missions are dismantling illegal support networks and capabilities that allow the enemy to move personnel and weapons into the city and stage attacks.  This effort has also proven successful in the killing or capture of key leaders and cell members who belong to extremist groups.

To the southeast of Baghdad, Operation Marne Torch is focused on the clearing of extremist sanctuaries located in the Arab Jabour area.  Four insurgents have been killed and more than 60 detained.  In addition, 17 boats were destroyed, significantly disrupting insurgent operations on the Tigris River.

In Al Anbar, Coalition Forces continue to work with Iraqi Police and Iraqi Army forces by engaging insurgents and al-Qaeda elements in more rural areas.  These operations are helping to interdict the enemy along the belts between Baghdad, Fallujah, Ramadi and the cities of the Western Euphrates River Valley to support the larger Baghdad security plan.

COALITION TAKES 11 SUSPECTED TERRORISTS OUT OF AL-QAEDA'S NETWORK

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Coalition Forces detained 11 suspected terrorists Wednesday and Thursday during operations targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Wednesday morning, Coalition Forces conducted two operations in Mosul targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leaders in the area.  Two suspected terrorists were detained for their suspected involvement with a Kurdish extremist in the al-Qaeda network and a terrorist emir of western Mosul.

North of Baghdad Thursday, Coalition Forces detained two suspected terrorists for their association with a key member of the al-Qaeda in Iraq network linked to several terrorist groups and vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attacks.

IRAQI SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCES DETAIN INSURGENT LEADER IN SADR CITY

BAGHDAD - Iraqi Special Operations Forces conducted an early morning operation June 20 and detained a key insurgent leader in Sadr City.

This individual is allegedly responsible for coordinating and conducting kidnappings, death squad killings and improvised explosive device attacks against innocent civilians and Iraqi and Coalition Forces.

During the operation, Iraqi Special Operations Forces detained their primary suspect without incident.  Iraqi SOF also detained two other suspicious individuals who were present during the operation.

The primary suspect is allegedly responsible for supplying vehicles, identification materials, and uniforms to support insurgent activities such as the kidnappings and extra-judicial killing of Iraqi citizens.  He is also alleged to have received new technologies to upgrade improvised explosive devices that would be used to target Iraqi and Coalition Forces.

IRAQI FORCES BREAK UP SNIPER CELL, DETAIN FIVE

TAJI - Iraqi Forces conducted an early-morning raid June 19 to breakup a terrorist sniper cell in the Bayji area of northern Iraq.

During the raid, Iraqi Forces successfully raided the target objectives, detaining their primary suspect and four others for further questioning.

Besides the five individuals detained, Iraqi Forces confiscated a sniper rifle, three AK-47 assault rifles, a 9mm pistol, associated ammunition as well as improvised explosive device making materials.

OPERATION COMMANDO EAGLE STARTS OFF STRONG

MAHMUDIYAH, Iraq - A joint operation geared toward curbing terrorist activity southwest of Baghdad is yielding results almost immediately.

Operation Commando Eagle, a mix of helicopter-borne air assaults and Humvee-mounted movements, included Soldiers from several battalions of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) out of Fort Drum, N.Y., and the 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division.

The operation, which began today, targeted a series of houses which local citizens indicated were being used by al-Qaeda cells to intimidate them and launch attacks against Iraqi and Coalition Forces.

Troops of the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd BCT, detained three men when their truck was found to contain documents requesting rockets as well as a spool of copper wire, commonly used to build improvised explosive devices.

Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 4th Brigade, IA Division found a cache containing four AK-47s, a 60mm mortar tube with three rounds, an SKS rigged with sniper optics, three bolt-action rifles, a camcorder with tapes, a roll of copper wire, 20 homemade grenades, four ski masks, 75 CDs of propaganda and terror techniques instructing methods to commit kidnappings and to shoot down coalition helicopters, and various other IED-making materials.

Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd BCT discovered multiple series of caches during the operation.

The first cache complex contained five AK-47s with three magazines, a roll of IED wire and a shotgun.

A second cache included seven AK-47s.

The third complex included an anti-tank mine, an anti-personnel mine, two rocket propelled grenade rounds, an RPG launcher and multiple pounds of TNT.

Task Force 2-15 detained 16 individuals.

Company A, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment detained nine men and Troop B, 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment detained four, all wanted for terrorist attacks or for possessing illegal weapons.

Commando Eagle was named after the 2nd BCT, known as the Commandos, and the 4th Bde, 6th IA, called the Baghdad Eagles.

The caches were seized and disposed of.

The individuals are being held for questioning.

Liberals Trying To End Conservative "Domination" Of Talk Radio

From ThinkProgress.org, Full version available here, in PDF. It's a hoot.

Our conclusion is that the gap between conservative and progressive talk radio is the result of multiple structural problems in the U.S. regulatory system, particularly the complete breakdown of the public
trustee concept of broadcast, the elimination of clear public interest requirements for broadcasting, and the relaxation of ownership rules including the requirement of local participation in management.

[...]

This analysis suggests that any effort to encourage more responsive and balanced radio programming will first require steps to increase localism and diversify radio station ownership to better meet local and community needs.

We suggest three ways to accomplish this:

  • Restore local and national caps on the ownership of commercial radio stations.
  • Ensure greater local accountability over radio licensing.
  • Require commercial owners who fail to abide by enforceable public interest obligations to pay a fee to support public broadcasting.

The breakdown. No multi-station owners like Clear Channel, re-enact the Fairness Doctrine, and/or pay a fine if they don't like your programming.

There's more, Hillary Clinton and Barbara Boxer were overheard by Sen. James Inhofe saying they want a legislative fix for talk radio. I'm sure Trent Lott will gladly jump all over this.

This isn't about Conservative "domination" of talk radio, this is about liberal domination of the media. Talk Radio is the one media segment they don't have control over. They already have television and print media. I would guess that the internet is about 50/50. It's just that the  liberals in the blogosphere are not as smart as Conservative bloggers. Another thing that troubles liberals is the cooperation between Conservative bloggers.

Liberals tried to compete with Conservative talk radio by creating Air America. As everyone knows, it was a huge failure. The fact is liberals don't need talk radio to supplement their views, they have everything else.

A 3rd carrier, USS Enterprise Strike Group Heading Towards Persian Gulf

I hope the Iranians are wetting themselves.

According to DEBKAfile’s military sources, the US naval build-up off the shores of Iran marks rising military tensions in the region, accentuated by last week’s Hamas victory which has endowed Iran with a military foothold on Israel’s southwestern border.

The USS Enterprise CVN 65-Big E Strike Group, the US Navy’s largest air carrier, will join the USS Stennis and the USS Nimitz carriers, building up the largest sea, air, marine concentration the United States has ever deployed opposite Iran. This goes towards making good on the assurances of four carriers US Vice President Dick Cheney offered the Gulf and Middle East nations during his May tour of the region.

The “Big E” leads a strike group consisting of the guided-missile destroyers USS Arleigh Burke DDG 51, USS Stout DDG 55, Forrest Sherman DDG 98 and USS James E. Williams DDG 95, as well as the guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg CG 64, the SS Philadelphia SSN 690 nuclear submarine and the USNS Supply T-AOE 6>

On its decks are the Carrier Air Wing CVW 1, whose pilots fought combat missions in the Gulf and Arabian Sea during 2006. The Air Wing is made up of F/Q-18 Super Hornet strike craft, the Sidewinders Strike Fighter Squadron VFA-86, the 251st Marine Fighter Attack Squadron MFA, and the Electronic Attack Squadron VAQ 137.

The 32nd Sea Control Squadron VS consists of S-3B Vikings. The Airborne Early Warning Squadron VAQ 3 flies E-2C Hawkeye craft. The Fleet Logistics Support Squadron VRC is based on C-2A Greyhounds.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report Washington is considering deploying the fourth US carrier for the region in the Red Sea opposite Saudi Arabian western coast to secure the three US carriers in the Gulf from the rear as well as the Gulf of Aqaba and Suez Canal.

Ex-Marine Kills Bear With Log

He's HARDCORE also.

An ex-Marine used a whole lot of bravery and a little bit of luck in a harrowing encounter with a black bear.
Norcross resident Christ Everhart took his three boys on their first camping trip to the Chattahoochee National Forest last weekend. There, a 300 pound bear set her sights on their cooler. But when Chris’ son distracted the wild animal, the bear dropped the cooler and headed for the 6-year-old boy.

[...]

“When Logan was being chased by the bear, I threw about five rocks at the bear to keep him away,” said Kyle Everhart.

The boys’ dad, an ex-Marine, knew he had to do something. So he grabbed the closes thing he could find – a log.

“(I) threw it at it and it happened to hit the bear in the head and I thought it just knocked it out but it actually ended up killing the bear,” said Chris.

That's not only hardcore, that's beastly. He killed the bear not by beating it with a log, but throwing it.

Awesome.

John Edwards' Daughter Picks Hillary For President

The Silky Pony's daughter hates him.

Elizabeth Edwards and her two youngest children, Emma Claire, 9, and Jack, 7, stopped in West Branch for an hour or so Saturday afternoon. She was here to campaign on behalf of her husband, Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, who is vying to win the Iowa Caucuses, a feat he nearly accomplished four years ago.

[...]

After a brief stop at a Little League game in Beranek Park, where Emma Claire mentioned that her softball team's name is the Hawkeyes, the family ventured on to Tipton to rejoin their favorite candidate. Oh, but that's not entirely accurate - or at least it wasn't on Saturday. When the Edwardses visited the Cedar County Democrats' tent, Mrs. Edwards asked her daughter which of the presidential candidates she liked best. Did she point to dear old Dad? No, she pointed to Hillary Clinton.

Fred!: Good News About CAIR

ABC Radio Networks

I've talked before about the Council on American-Islamic Relations -- most recently because it filed that lawsuit against Americans who reported suspicious behavior by Muslims on a U.S. Airways flight. Better known just as CAIR, the lobbying group has come under a lot of scrutiny lately for its connections to terror-supporting groups. This time, though, The Washington Times has uncovered some very good news about the group.

For years, CAIR has claimed to represent millions of American Muslims. In fact, they claim to represent more Muslim in American than ... there are in America. This has alarmed Americans in general as the group often seems to be more aligned with our enemies than us -- which isn't surprising as it spun off from a group funded by Hamas. As you know, Hamas has been waging a terrorist war against Israel and calls for its total destruction. It also promises to see America destroyed. Nowadays, Hamas is busy murdering its Palestinian political rivals.

Even with this history, and CAIR's conspicuous failure to condemn Hamas by name, it has been treated as if represents Muslim Americans by our own government. The good news is that the financial support CAIR claims to have among American Muslims is a myth. We know this because The Washington Times got hold of the group's IRS tax records.

CAIR's dues-paying membership has shrunk 90 percent since 9/11 -- from 29,000 in 2000 to only 1,700 last year. CAIR's annual income from dues plunged from $733,000 to $59,000. Clearly, America's Muslims are not supporting this group -- and I'm happy to hear about it.

Of course, every silver lining seems to have a cloud; and this cloud is that CAIR's spending is running about $3 million a year. They’ve opened 25 new chapters in major cities across the country even as their dues shrank to a pittance. The question is; who’s funding CAIR?

CAIR's not saying. The New York Times earlier this year reported that the backing is from "wealthy Persian Gulf governments" including the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Obviously, we have a bigger problem here than the one with CAIR.

Man Survives Bobcat Attack By Choking Animal To Death

The man is just HARDCORE.

Dale Rippy

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — A 62-year-old Florida man depended on his instincts when a bobcat attacked him, and it paid off — he survived, the bobcat didn't.

Dale Rippy, a resident of Wesley Chapel, Florida, was pulling trashcans back to his house May 30 when he saw what he thought was a large cat. After realizing the animal was actually a bobcat, he set the trashcans down and prepared for an attack.

Having grown up on a farm, Rippy said he knew the bobcat would attack when it didn’t run away after seeing him.

“When it growled, I knew it was going to jump and bite me,” he said.

The animal then jumped on him and began to scratch and bite. Rippy said he knew if he could get a good hold on the animal, he would be able to choke it, even if that meant letting the bobcat take a couple of bites.

“I started choking it when got a good hold,” he said. “I choked it ‘til he died. I got scratched up pretty good.”

Rippy never had to go to the hospital, but was examined at a doctor’s office due to puncture wounds on his stomach and scratches.

After the attack, his neighbor called the police, who then called animal control. After the animal was inspected, it was found to be infected with rabies.

Rippy said now, he and his neighbor that helped him after the attack have to have rabies shots.

10,000 U.S. Soldiers Launch Offensive Against Al-Qaeda

'Dingy' Harry Reid was right, the "surge" has failed. Only 22 terrorists were killed today.

About 10,000 U.S. soldiers launched an offensive against al-Qaida in Iraq northeast of Baghdad early Monday, killing at least 22 insurgents, the U.S. military said.

The raids, dubbed "Operation Arrowhead Ripper," took place in Baqouba, the capital of Diyala province, and involved air assaults under the cover of darkness, the military said in a statement. The operation was still in its opening stages, it said.

This is a breaking story and constantly updated. This is a snip of a previous article.

U.S. and Iraqi forces launched attacks on Baghdad's northern and southern flanks to clear out Sunni insurgents, al-Qaida fighters and Shiite militiamen who had fled the capital and Anbar during a four-month-old security operation, military officials said Monday.

A top U.S. military official said American forces were taking advantage of the arrival of the final brigade of 30,000 additional U.S. troops to open the concerted attacks.

***UPDATE***

The psychopaths at Huffington Post are flipping out over this. Here is some of the comments:

As if a cockbite like YOU has been in a combat zone. Desert Storm doesn't count, shithead.

The "war" is lost. Get used to it and get out now.

Why are we going on the offensive when we've already lost?

I object to them calling these people al-queda, somehow linking them to the terrorists who committed 9/11... these people had NOTHING to do with 9/11, and therefore should not be called al-queda. these people are defending their country and countrymen from invaders. It's kill, or be killed, simple as that.

tell me about the hardened us soldiers who slaughter women and babies, or the brave americans who rape and then kill little iraq girls, then i will shut up.

I only wish for bad things to happen to those people.
