Good News From The War On Terror 6/16

Citizen tip leads Wolfhounds to key insurgent leaders

TIKRIT, Iraq – An Iraqi citizen tip led Coalition Forces to two wanted insurgent cell leaders and nine other suspected insurgents, who were captured during operations June 15, near the village of Hawijah, 40 miles southwest of the city of Kirkuk.

The two men wanted for coordinating attacks against coalition and Iraqi Security Forces and aiding Al Qaeda in Iraq were captured by Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. There were no reports of coalition or civilian casualties.

The 2-27 Infantry Battalion is assigned to the 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division from Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Multiple-target air assault nets two insurgent leaders, five other suspected insurgents in northern Iraq

BAGHDAD – With Coalition Forces present as advisers, Iraqi Army Forces from the city of Irbil in Diyanah Province, conducted an early morning air assault operation in Mashat Village June 6 detaining two insurgent leaders and five suspected insurgents.

The suspects, who have been linked to an al-Qaeda terrorist network operating out of northern Iraq, are allegedly responsible for the June 1 vehicle-borne improvised explosive device in Haychel; the May 13, VBIED attack in Makmoor; the Feb. 13, 2005 attack that killed three Iraqi National Guard Soldiers; and the May 14, 2004 assassination of the Governor of Ninewa.

Attacking multiple target houses simultaneously, Iraqi and Coalition Forces detained their primary targets without incident. Five other suspicious individuals were also detained as they attempted to flee the area during the operation.

The purpose of the operation, the director said, was to severely disrupt the al-Qaeda network’s ability to conduct assassinations and IED attacks on innocent civilians in Mashat Village, Sharqat District as well as disrupt terrorist activity and influence in the Za’ab triangle north from Baghdad to Mosul or Irbil.

Attack helicopters kill IED emplacers

BAQOUBA, Iraq – Attack helicopters engaged and destroyed anti-Iraqi forces attempting to emplace an IED near Muqdadiyah, June 16.

The attack helicopters from 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, observed four insurgents carry a propane tank and begin digging on the side of the road.  Two additional insurgents parked a vehicle between the road and the four AIF digging in order to obscure the IED emplacement.

Attack helicopters, armed with hellfire missiles, engaged and killed all six insurgents and destroyed the vehicle.

Coalition ground forces secured the area and recovered the IED.

Two insurgents killed after rocket attack near Samarra

TIKRIT, Iraq – Coalition Forces attack helicopters from Troop B, 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, destroyed a vehicle and killed two insurgents, June 14, northeast of Samarra.

The insurgents were observed hastily firing three rockets at a nearby Coalition base and immediately fled the scene in their vehicle.  Coalition helicopters and aircraft observed them for several miles and destroyed the vehicle and killed both AIF with direct fire.

The insurgent-fired rockets missed their target and there were no Coalition Forces casualties as a result of the attack.

Four terrorists killed, 20 detained in Coalition operations

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition Forces killed four terrorists and detained 20 suspected terrorists during operations around the country to disrupt the al-Qaeda in Iraq network Saturday.

Coalition Forces launched an operation to capture associates of al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leadership east of Fallujah.  As they approached the two targeted buildings, three armed terrorists maneuvered into tactical positions against the ground force.  Coalition Forces, reacting to the hostile threat, engaged the terrorists, killing all three.

Within the buildings, the ground force found several military-style ammunition vests and grenades.  Five suspected terrorists were detained for their alleged ties to al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leaders.

In another operation in Anbar province, Coalition Forces detained an individual suspected of making and transporting false documentation for al-Qaeda in Iraq leaders and operatives.  Coalition Forces also found identification-making equipment in the suspect’s house.

In Mosul, Coalition Forces killed one terrorist and wounded another armed man during an operation targeting terrorist leaders.  As the ground force approached the objective, the two armed men engaged the ground force with small arms fire.  Coalition Forces, reacting in self-defense, returned fire, killing one terrorist and wounding the other.  The wounded man was taken to a military medical facility for treatment.  One suspected terrorist was detained on scene for his alleged ties to a newly appointed al-Qaeda leader.

Two other operations in Mosul netted four detainees who allegedly finance al-Qaeda operations in the area.  Intelligence reports indicate three suspects are heavily involved in a network that conducts kidnappings and hijackings to raise money for terrorist activities.

In Baghdad, Coalition Forces detained eight suspected terrorists for their connection to al-Qaeda senior leaders and the Baghdad vehicle-borne improvised explosive device network.  On site, Coalition Forces also destroyed one vehicle known to transport personnel and explosives for terrorist activities.

One Secret Cell terrorist killed, 10 detained

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Iraqi and Coalition Forces killed one terrorist, wounded one suspected terrorist and detained 10 suspected terrorists, including one key facilitator and one cell leader, during operations targeting secret cell network operations in Baghdad.

The individuals detained during the raid are believed to be members of the secret cell terrorist network known for facilitating the transport of weapons and explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, from Iran to Iraq, as well as bringing militants from Iraq to Iran for terrorist training.

During coordinated operations in Sadr City and eastern Baghdad, Iraqi and Coalition Forces detained eight suspected terrorists in eastern Baghdad and two suspected terrorists in Sadr City.  During the pre-dawn raids in Sadr City, ground forces came under small arms fire.  Using appropriate self defense measures, Coalition Forces returned fire, killing at least one terrorist and wounding one armed suspected terrorist.

Intelligence reports indicate that the cell leader detained during the morning’s operation in Sadr City is associated with a kidnapping cell and is believed to be directly involved in the November Ministry of Health kidnappings.  Additionally, intelligence reports indicate that the targeted individual’s cell specializes in the emplacement of improvised explosive devises and EFPs.

Intelligence reports also indicate that the key facilitator detained in eastern Baghdad has direct contact with high level key leaders in the secret cell terrorist networks.  He is also believed to be responsible for the facilitation of Iran lethal aid as well as directing attacks on Coalition Forces.

U.N.: Climate Change The Cause Of Genocide In Darfur

Climate change causes people to hate Christians. At least that's what they may be trying to say. But I thought Muslims were killing Christians long before there was any of this "Global Warming" nonsense.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that the slaughter in Darfur was triggered by global climate change and that more such conflicts may be on the horizon, in an article published Saturday.

"The Darfur conflict began as an ecological crisis, arising at least in part from climate change," Ban said in a Washington Post opinion column.

UN statistics showed that rainfall declined some 40 percent over the past two decades, he said, as a rise in Indian Ocean temperatures disrupted monsoons.

"This suggests that the drying of sub-Saharan Africa derives, to some degree, from man-made global warming," the South Korean diplomat wrote.

"It is no accident that the violence in Darfur erupted during the drought," Ban said in the Washington daily.

Wow! It's amazing that the secretary general of the United Nations has no idea about the whole Muslim - Infidel thing. The one where if you're not a Muslim then you die.

Fmr. Iranian President Khatami To Lose Cleric Status Over Handshake With Women

I think he should be executed.

Former Iranian president Mohamed Khatami could be tried by a religious tribunal and banned from preaching over a handshake, Iranian conservative papers report. Websites close to the ultraconservative government of president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad such as Rajanews and Ansarnews said on Friday that an increasing number of clerics in the holy Shiite city of Qom believe the moderate cleric who was president of Iran from 1997 to 2005 should be convicted for his behaviour as recently demanded by Ahmadinejad's official biographer, Fatemeh Rajabi.

Rajabi is the wife of justice minister Gholam Hossein Elham, who also acts as a government spokesman.
In a recent article, Ahmadinejad's biographer wrote that "the history of Shiism in Iran has never witnessed such insolence by a member of the clergy."

Kayhan, the influential Tehran-based conservative paper directed by Hossein Shariatmadari, who is very close to the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, dedicated to such an i"impure contact" an editorial accusing Khatami of having fall prey to Washington and all the "enemies of our revolution and Islam."

On 12 June, the Baran foundation of former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami issued a statement denying the cleric had intentionally shaken hands with women - as shown in footage of a recent trip to Italy broadcast on 'YouTube' - a gesture prohibited under Iran's strict interpretation of Islamic law banning all physical contact between men and women who are not related. The statement indicated either the footage had been edited to give a false impression or else Khatami had shaken the hands of people in a crowd without realising they were female.

The footage shows the president speaking to and then exchanging a handshake with Gianola and Cristina Nonnino, well known local producers of grappa, or husk brandy, in the northeastern Italian city of Udine during a visit last month.

During the raid on one house, four suspects were detained. These four have been identified as those believed responsible for a June 11 improvised explosive device attack against Coalition Forces in the Bulayj area.

Continuing with their mission, Iraqi forces gave chase to a suspicious person running from a neighboring house. He was detained for questioning after being found hiding in a bathroom. The final two people, a father and son believed to be main players in recent small arms and RPG attacks in Bi’aj, Iraq, were detained in the fourth target house.

Besides the seven suspected terrorists detained, a recently purchased new Toyota truck used for attacks in Bi’aj, a Glock pistol, a shotgun, four AK-47 assault rifles and seven cell phones were confiscated.

It's Official: U.S. To Build Missile Defense Shield In Europe

Let the Communist crying commence.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates says the Bush administration is not willing to replace its plan for a missile defense system in Eastern Europe with Russia's counterproposal for a radar site in Azerbaijan.

That's the blunt message Gates was to deliver to Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov during a private meeting Friday at the NATO gathering in Brussels.

Speaking to reporters Thursday, Gates said that despite strident Russian opposition, the U.S. will proceed with its plans for a radar system in the Czech Republic to watch for missile threats and 10 interceptor rockets in Poland to shoot down any missiles.

Gates dismissed any notion that Russia's push for joint use of a radar station in Azerbaijan could replace the broader U.S. plan. And he expressed doubts that there could be any agreement with the Russians by next month, when President Bush is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Kennebunkport, Maine.

"I was very explicit in the (NATO) meeting that we saw the Azeri radar as an additional capability, that we intended to proceed with the X-Band radar in the Czech Republic," Gates said during a press briefing.

For those don't think this was the right idea and failing in diplomacy with Russia, someone may change your mind. One of my favorite blogs, In From The Cold, gives expert analysis of why the missile defense shield based in Azerbaijan isn't a good idea. There's many points he makes in his post, so it's not feasible to cite it. You will have to read it all.

China Arming Terrorists In Iraq And Afghanistan VIA Iran

Here's another example of a country wanting "superpower" status, but are too cowardice to do it head-on. These countries want to use proxy fighters to further their agenda.

New intelligence reveals China is covertly supplying large quantities of small arms and weapons to insurgents in Iraq and the Taliban militia in Afghanistan, through Iran.

U.S. government appeals to China to check some of the arms shipments in advance were met with stonewalling by Beijing, which insisted it knew nothing about the shipments and asked for additional intelligence on the transfers. The ploy has been used in the past by China to hide its arms-proliferation activities from the United States, according to U.S. officials with access to the intelligence reports.

Some arms were sent by aircraft directly from Chinese factories to Afghanistan and included large-caliber sniper rifles, millions of rounds of ammunition, rocket-propelled grenades and components for roadside bombs, as well as other small arms.

The Washington Times reported June 5 that Chinese-made HN-5 anti-aircraft missiles were being used by the Taliban.

According to the officials, the Iranians, in buying the arms, asked Chinese state-run suppliers to expedite the transfers and to remove serial numbers to prevent tracing their origin. China, for its part, offered to transport the weapons in order to prevent the weapons from being interdicted.

China, Russia, and Iran are doing everything they can to prevent us from creating democracy in the Middle East, a new "Axis of Evil" in the world. Their strategy for defeating America's military is the same as the Democrat strategy, the slow bleed. The Axis plan is to slowly kill our troops and America's will to fight, the Democrat's plan is to cut off money so our troops don't have ammo, food, and equipment, which in turn will slowly kill our soldiers.

After Pandering From Fitzgerald, Judge Won't Delay Libby Prison Term

Now is the time for a pardon. Hopefully the appeals court will overturn this liberal judge.

WASHINGTON - A federal judge said Thursday he will not delay a 2 1/2-year prison sentence for I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby in the CIA leak case, a ruling that could send the former White House aide to prison within weeks.

U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton's decision will send Libby's attorneys rushing to an appeals court to block the sentence and could force President Bush to consider calls from Libby's supporters to pardon the former aide.

No date was set for Libby to report to prison but it's expected to be within six to eight weeks. That will be left up to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, which will also select a facility.

"Unless the Court of Appeals overturns my ruling, he will have to report," Walton said.

War In Gaza- Abbas To Dissolve Palestinian Authority Gov't

Terrorist vs. Terrorist, let them kill each other. When they're done, Israel can come in and clean up and make it part of productive society.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip —  President Mahmoud Abbas will dissolve the Palestinian Authority's government Thursday after fighting between rival parties Hamas and Fatah consumed the Gaza Strip and was expected to call for a state of emergency, sources close to Abbas confirmed to FOX News.

Hamas fighters took control from two of the rival Fatah movement's most important security command centers in the Gaza Strip, and witnesses said the victors dragged vanquished gunmen into the street and shot them to death execution-style.

Hamas also seized control of Rafah in the south, Gaza's third-largest city, according to witnesses and security officials. It was the second main Gaza city to fall to the militants, who captured nearby Khan Younis on Wednesday.

Hamas captured the Preventive Security headquarters and the intelligence services building in Gaza City, major advances in the Islamic group's attempts to take over Gaza.

Democrats Have No Conscience

Here's the days' round-up of news about these pathetic people. In addition to another proclamation of defeat by 'Dingy' Harry Reid we have the following.

Reid: Petraeus, Pace "incompetent"

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called Marine Gen. Peter Pace, the outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, "incompetent" during an interview Tuesday with a group of liberal bloggers, a comment that was never reported.

Reid made similar disparaging remarks about Army Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said several sources familiar with the interview.

This is but the latest example of how Reid, under pressure from liberal activists to do more to stop the war, is going on the attack against President Bush and his military leaders in anticipation of a September showdown to end U.S. involvement in Iraq, according to Democratic senators and aides.

Dems no longer respect the military

WASHINGTON (AP) - A Democratic challenge to Gen. Peter Pace indicates that uniformed officers no longer are exempt from the partisan fire on Capitol Hill once reserved for civilian policymakers.

On Friday, Defense Secretary Robert Gates made the stunning announcement that he would not recommend Pace to serve a second two-year term as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Marine Corps four-star general had not been a target previously of Democrats' ire on the war, but Gates said lawmakers made it clear the confirmation process would be ugly.

Pelosi wants taxpayers to foot the bill for her adult children's transportation

Pentagon officials are bracing for a fight with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over her desire to allow lawmakers’ adult children to tag along on taxpayer-funded travel for free.

Pelosi wants them to be able to fill the role of lawmakers’ spouses when the latter are unable to make a trip because of health issues or work commitments.

“It has been longstanding policy that, in the absence of a congressional spouse, the adult child of a member of Congress may accompany the member on official U.S. government travel abroad for protocol reasons and without reimbursing the U.S. Treasury,” Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami said. “Speaker Pelosi believes that a modern policy must reflect the professional responsibilities or health realities that might prevent a spouse from participating, and instead permit an adult child to fulfill the protocol needs of the official trip.”

Pentagon officials say the policy is that the Treasury must be reimbursed at commercial rates for children who accompany members on such trips, often called codels.

Just in case the surrender monkeys are confused about their "mandate" and the people's call for a change of strategy. You have this.

Approval ratings: Dem-led Congress 23%, lower than Bush

Amid political gridlock on domestic issues and inconclusive debates over Iraq, the approval rating for Congress stands lower than Mr. Bush's, at 23%. Just 41% of Americans say their representative in Congress deserves re-election, comparable to levels before Democrats swept Republicans out of power in November.

Defeat-ocrats Proclaim The Surge Has Failed

I can only imagine that before each day, these surrender monkeys gather around and "pray" to Gaia that we lose the War so they may be re-elected.

Top US congressional Democrats bluntly told President George W. Bush Wednesday that his Iraq troop "surge" policy was a failure.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi challenged the president over Iraq by sending him a letter, ahead of a White House meeting later on Wednesday.

"As many had forseen, the escalation has failed to produce the intended results," the two leaders wrote.

"The increase in US forces has had little impact in curbing the violence or fostering political reconciliation.

"It has not enhanced Americas national security. The unsettling reality is that instances of violence against Iraqis remain high and attacks on US forces have increased.

"In fact, the last two months of the war were the deadliest to date for US troops.

The letter appeared to preview a fresh showdown over Iraq between anti-war Democrats and the president, just a few weeks after Bush forced his foes to strip troop withdrawal timelines from a 100 billion dollar emergency war budget.

Whatever happened to that law against treason?

Broward May Cancel Deal With Radio Station Because it Airs Rush Limbaugh

These people are ridiculous.

Rush Limbaugh has long been a thorn in the side of liberals, but now, because of him, some Democratic politicians don't even want to join with a local radio station to broadcast hurricane information.

Radio station WIOD, AM 610, has been the official channel for emergency information from Broward County government for the past year. The County Commission, all Democrats, balked at renewing the deal Tuesday, unable to stomach the station also being home to Limbaugh's talk show.

Commissioner Stacy Ritter said she did not want to support a station that's out of step with area politics. Ritter, a Democratic stalwart in the state Legislature before being elected to county office, cited talk shows hosted by Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and WIOD's partnership with Fox News.

"They have every right to speak, but we don't have to do business with them," she said.

Limbaugh has long been a fixture on WIOD, but no county official raised an issue about him or the other shows when the deal was approved for the first time a year ago.

The deal with WIOD would ensure that news conferences are broadcast start to finish live from the county Emergency Operations Center in Plantation. Emergency managers became concerned during hurricanes in 2004 and 2005 that radio and television stations preempted their announcements in favor of news out of Miami.

Good News From The War On Terror 6/11-6/12

12 DETAINED IN COALITION RAIDS

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Coalition Forces detained 12 suspected terrorists during operations to disrupt the al-Qaeda in Iraq network Monday.

Coalition Forces targeted a location southeast of Fallujah where an alleged al-Qaeda in Iraq cell leader was staying based on intelligence reports and information gained from an operation June 7.  The ground forces detained six suspected terrorists on site for their association with the cell leader, who is known for emplacing improvised explosive devices.

Coalition Forces raided a group of buildings in Tarmiyah in an operation targeting a suspected terrorist associated with al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leaders.  Coalition Forces detained the individual, who is allegedly a financial emir for the terrorist organization.

During four coordinated raids in Baghdad, Coalition Forces detained five suspected terrorists linked to an al-Qaeda in Iraq emir.  The ground force also found a cache of weapons at the site, which they safely destroyed.

'PATRIOTS' UNCOVER CACHE, CAPTURE SUSPECTED TERRORIST IN WESTERN BAGHDAD

BAGHDAD - Multi-National Division- Baghdad Soldiers, in cooperation with Iraqi Security Forces, conducted a raid in the western Baghdad neighborhood of Hateen June 10, uncovering a cache of bomb-making materials and capturing a terrorist suspect believed to be linked to al-Qaeda in Iraq.

"We've been looking for this guy for some time," said 1st Lt.
Kevin Mills, a tactical intelligence officer with 2-32nd FA.  Mills said the operation's success can be attributed to the cooperation and shared intelligence between U.S. and Iraqi Security Forces.

Soldiers from the 2nd "Patriot" Battalion, 32nd Field Artillery Regiment, attached to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, acted on a tip and apprehended the alleged al-Qaeda member.  The troops also found approximately 500 boxes of toilet bowl cleaner and 20 boxes of circuit breaker covers, which can be used to build improvised chemical weapons.

Mills said the planning and coordination for this operation took place at Joint Security Station Torch in the Yarmouk neighborhood, near the site of the raid.  The raid was a product of coordination and cooperation between the Patriot Battalion and members of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army and the Yarmouk Iraqi Police.

'DRAGON' SOLDIERS SEIZE, DESTROY BOMB FACTORY

BAGHDAD - Multinational Division - Baghdad Soldiers seized a bomb-making factory, along with another large weapons cache while on patrol in the eastern portion of the Rashid District of the Iraqi capital June 11.

"This is tremendous work by our Soldiers to take more than 300 (improvised explosive devices) off the streets," said Col. Ricky D. Gibbs, commander of 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

Troops from Company A, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, and Company A, 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, attached to the 4th IBCT, discovered the factory, a complex of small buildings deep in the thick palm groves of East Rashid, after receiving word of the objective's location from other Coalition Forces.

The find consisted of one vehicle wired and loaded with explosives as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device; 54 82mm mortars; 27 155mm artillery shells; one 500-pound bomb; 64 anti-tank mines; two 200-pound bombs; three 100-pound bombs; 30 130mm projectiles; 30 hand grenades; 200 artillery boosters; 10 40mm rounds; one bag of blasting caps; one rocket of unknown caliber and origin; one bag of booster charges; six bags of propellant; 300 five-gallon cans of nitric acid used to make homemade explosives; one bag of breaching charges and 15 bags of anti-personnel mines with 100 mines per bag. Also found in the cache was enough wiring and bomb-making material to create more than 300 improvised explosive devices.

In a separate cache near the complex, an additional 125 five-gallon containers of nitric acid were found.

Three other vehicles were also found at the site wired as car bombs, but did not contain explosives.

A Coalition explosive ordnance disposal team catalogued the weapons and explosives found and will dispose of them properly, preventing them from being used against innocent Iraqi people or Iraqi Security and Coalition Force personnel.

1-15 INF CONDUCTS AIR ASSAULT MISSION, DESTROYS CACHE

FORWARD OPERATING BASE HAMMER, Iraq - Soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, seized a weapons cache near Al Dur'aya June 4.

The unit conducted an air assault operation into the area to
capture insurgents and destroy weapon caches.

"With us moving by air, we were able to get our elements to the objective, and was ideal in this situation," said Capt. Leo Buehler, Company B, 1-15 Infantry commander. "Because of the objective's remote location and enemy's network of early warning observation posts along the limited ground routes into the village, a ground infiltration would have given the enemy more than one hour early notice."

By dropping from CH-47 Chinook helicopters, Coalition Forces
gained the advantage by allowing the enemy only minutes to prepare.

"As a result, the enemy was unable to recover their equipment
prior to our arrival on site," Buehler said.

The mission netted one insurgent cache containing 30-60 mm
mortars, seven AK-47 assault rifles, 32 AK-47 magazines, two 60 mm mortar tubes, one set of body armor and one military-style uniform.

During the mission, AH-64 Apache attack helicopters engaged and destroyed a truck after receiving small-arms fire.

The cache was destroyed by explosive ordnance personnel at the scene.

MILITANTS DETAINED IN KHOWST

KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and Coalition forces detained two militants in an operation early Tuesday against militant Taliban forces in the Mandozai district of Khowst Province.

Coalition forces acted on credible intelligence identifying the location suspected of housing local Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters.  A search revealed two suspected militants.

Two females in the house were wounded by flying debris during the operation: one 13-yr-old girl had minor abrasions and a 25-yr-old woman received a wound to her underarm.  She and her family refused medical evacuation for the injury, and the medics on site determined it was not necessary.

Medical personnel treated the wound, giving her antibiotics and instructions on how to care for it.

“Civilian injuries are always regrettable, and coalition forces train extensively on how to avoid them,” said coalition spokesman Army Major Chris Belcher.  “When Taliban and al-Qaeda operatives hide among their families, they are putting everyone in harm’s way.”

The detainees will be questioned as to their involvement in militant activities.

ENORMOUS MUNITIONS CACHE RECOVERED

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Afghan National Police and Coalition forces received information from local villagers while conducting a medical engagement for 50 families, which led to the discovery of a massive munitions cache in the Chamkani district of Paktya province June 10.

Local Afghans from the village of Sultak provided information to the ANP on the whereabouts of an insurgent logistical improvised explosive device facilitator while conducting a shura.  After receiving the information, the ANP quickly located and began searching the suspected compound.

While entering the compound, the ANP received sporadic enemy machine gun and rocket propelled grenade fire. ANP immediately returned fire forcing the insurgents to flee.  Once securing the compound, a subsequent search led to the discovery of the entrance of two large caves hidden under two animal pens.

Within the caves, ANP and Coalition forces recovered a substantial amount of munitions consisting of RPG rounds, 82mm mortar rounds, mines, grenades, blasting caps, machine gun ammunition, detonation cord, assorted fuses and charges, IED receivers and power sources, blocks of explosives, and medical supplies.

There were no injuries to any Afghan civilians or ANP members during the brief firefight.

Local elders were able to view the munitions cache and assisted ANP and Coalition forces in removing the contents of the cache.  The elders also vowed to track down the IED facilitator and bring him to justice.

Afghan civilians who facilitate the recovery and turn-in of munitions caches are compensated for their efforts through the Small Rewards Program.  The SRP was created to encourage and compensate Afghan civilians for their efforts to rid the country of weapons used by insurgent and foreign fighters.

Lawsuit: Cops Executed Pets After Katrina

If this is true, it's probably one of the most disgusting things I've heard. There is four pages to this article. Read them all here.

For nearly two years, pet owners from the low-lying Louisiana parish of St. Bernard have accused sheriff's deputies of having wantonly killed dozens of dogs they forced evacuees to leave behind during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, without regard to the dogs' size or the potential threat they might pose.

One owner said her family was forced at gunpoint to leave its dog behind. Another owner said residents became frantic when, they said, they overheard one deputy claim that "once everybody's gone, we're going to have target practice tonight." They claim in court papers that deputies were under " authorization...of their superiors and employers.

Two deputies have already been indicted by a grand jury in New Orleans on charges of felony, aggravated cruelty to animals. The Louisiana attorney general's office is investigating and this morning lawyers for a group of owners will file a comprehensive complaint in federal court in Louisiana seeking class action status for their clients.

For the first time, the St. Bernard Parish sheriff's office has acknowledged to ABC News' Law & Justice Unit that an internal investigation has been launched.

In an interview last week, Sal Gutierrez, who represents the sheriff's office, defended the department's handling of a clearly difficult evacuation. Gutierrez said the shells left behind in the schools did not necessarily come from the weapons issued to department deputies. He denied allegations that orders to kill the dogs came from superior officers, calling that claim "false." He said that if the investigation turned up any wrongdoing by deputies, the St. Bernard sheriff would take appropriate disciplinary action. If something false has been alleged in the lawsuit, he said he would consider countercharges of defamation of character. He said that he and the sheriff were animal lovers.

I am by no means a PETA activist, but I do believe that all animals should be treated humanely. This also includes cows, chickens, pigs, and other animals we eat. There's no reason they should be beaten or suffer horrible death. We have the capability to make it quick and painless, so there's no reason why we shouldn't. They feel pain just as you and I do. If you had a choice of being beaten and suffering to death, or a quick and painless death, which would you choose?

Fred! Vaults To The Top Of Polls

LA Times/Bloomberg Poll: Giuliani 27% / Fred! 21%

Republicans antsy for a conservative standard-bearer in the presidential race have begun to rally behind Fred Thompson, propelling the former Tennessee senator to within hailing distance of the lead for the party's nomination, a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg Poll has found.

Former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani holds first place in the survey, with support from 27% of the Republicans and independents who said they plan to vote in the party's 2008 primaries.

But Thompson, an actor who played a prosecutor on NBC's "Law & Order," runs just behind, with 21%. Indications are he will join the race within the next month.

The two other major GOP contenders, Sen. John McCain of Arizona and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, fall well short of the leaders and are in a battle for third place. McCain was backed by 12% of those polled, Romney by 10%. The rest of the crowded field is mired in single digits.

Rasmussen Reports: Giuliani 24% / Fred! 24%

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has to share his spot atop the field of Republican Presidential hopefuls this week. The newest face in the race, former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson, is now tied with Giuliani. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds each man earning support from 24% of likely Republican Primary voters. A week ago, Giuliani had a six percentage point lead over Thompson, 23% to 17%.

It is not unusual for a candidate to gain ground in the polls when they first announce their intentions. However, Thompson’s rise has been meteoric. It remains to be seen whether the reality of his candidacy can measure up to its allure as an alternative for those dissatisfied with the other candidates in the field. At the moment, 59% of Republicans have a favorable opinion of their newest candidate. Just 14% hold an unfavorable opinion of Thompson while 27% are not sure.

Forty-two percent (42%) of Republicans view Thompson as politically conservative. Twenty-four percent (24%) see him as politically moderate, 3% say liberal and 30% are not sure. Twenty-one percent (21%) of Republicans view Giuliani as politically conservative (63% see the former Mayor of New York as politically moderate while 12% say liberal).

The Motor City Madman Ted Nugent, On Immigration Reform

Ted would make an excellent Vice-President. Can you imagine a Fred! and Ted! ticket?! That is gold right there people. The election has already been won.

This is already better than that garbage immigration bill Congress and the President is trying to throw at us.

It would start with fingerprints and an IIC.

That's an immigrant identification card.

The I.D. would be for foreigners who seek to live in, work in or become citizens of the United States. That's if I were writing the immigration laws.

It would include the reciting and signing of the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America and denouncing any and all allegiances to other countries. But first:

If you are not a legal U.S. citizen or documented alien, you would have to complete the following actions:

  • Upon passage of this legislation, you would return to your country of origin within six months at your expense. You then would register at the nearest U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service office or designated border station.
  • Prior to your re-entry, a security background check would be completed that would require a passport or other legal document positively identifying you.

You'd be fingerprinted, photographed and would submit to a DNA sample.

  • Within 30 days of entry you would register with the U.S. Immigration authorities or be subject to immediate deportation with no opportunity to return.
  • If you have been convicted of one felony or of three or more misdemeanor offenses by any court, forget it. You would be barred from entry, as would individuals who have documented ties to criminal elements or terrorist organizations.
  • Employers would have to ensure that persons they hire for any level of pay have a valid IIC.

An employer who hired a person without a valid IIC would be fined $100,000 per non-documented worker and would face two years in jail for each undocumented worker he or she employed.

  • Developing, manufacturing, procuring or otherwise possessing invalid or fake IICs would be a felony with a fine of $100,000 for each false IIC and two years in prison for each fraudulent IIC.
  • Persons wishing to work or otherwise reside in the U.S. would be highly encouraged to become proficient in English. States would offer driving license exams only in English. All persons would comply with states laws pertaining to owning and operating motor vehicles, motorcycles or other conveyances.
  • IIC holders who wished to become citizens of the United States could do so. However, their applications would go to the back of the queue from those already in the system. Becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen takes a considerable amount of time.
  • To remain as only temporary workers or reside here would have to have a valid IIC. It would have to be renewed every three years. Such persons would pay $25 a month to the U.S. Treasury. Any such person earning pay in the U.S. would be subject to all applicable tax laws.
  • Persons who resided in the United States who are not U.S. citizens or did not possess a valid IIC — or other legal document (e.g. student visa) — would be deported to their countries of origin, with costs of incarceration and deportation to be paid by the guilty party. They would forever be banned from entering the United States.
  • Though federal law enforcement agencies would be charged with carrying out these requirements, states would be required to fully cooperate in identification, apprehension and temporary incarceration. States failing to comply would be subject to the withholding of federal funds.
  • Federal funds would be barred from legal aid and/or legal support to persons who had previously entered without proper authorization.
  • Holders of IIC would not be eligible for any Social Security or other federal assistance programs until that person becomes a naturalized U.S. citizen.

The American dream comes with individual responsibilities to be an asset to this unique experiment in self-government. Bloodsuckers need not apply.
