209TH AFGHAN NATIONAL ARMY CORPS SOLDIERS BATTLE ENEMY FIGHTERS IN KANDAHAR
BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Soldiers from 3rd Company, 2nd Kandak, 1st Brigade, 209th Afghan National Army Corps, along with Coalition forces, identified and engaged enemy fighters on a ridgeline outside the village of Kowndalan in the Shah Wali Kot district of Kandahar province June 13.
After engaging the enemy, the combined patrol then climbed the ridgeline in search of other enemy fighters. A search of the ridgeline resulted in the discovery of several dead enemy fighters, several rocket shells and clothing.
205TH ANA CORPS SOLDIERS DEFEAT ENEMY FIGHTERS IN ZABUL AND KANDAHAR
BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Elements of the 2nd Brigade, 205th Afghan National Army Corps, and Coalition forces were ambushed by an unknown number of enemy fighters while conducting a combat patrol near the village of Kudak in the Deh Chopan district of Zabul province June 12.
ANA and Coalition forces repelled the initial enemy attack with small-arms fire and then requested Coalition close air support to repel five more attacks on their patrol over the next five-hours. A significant number of dozen enemy fighters were killed during the battle.
Elsewhere, in the Shah Wali Kot district of Kandahar province, 1st Brigade, 205th ANA Corps Soldiers, teamed with Coalition forces, identified an unknown number of enemy fighters placing improvised explosive devices in a high traffic area near the village of Safi. After ensuring there were no Afghan civilians in the area, ANA and Coalition forces fired artillery rounds on the enemy location, killing several of the fighters.
TWO SUSPECTS DETAINED, WEAPONS CACHE FOUND IN BAGHDAD
BAGHDAD - Iraqi Army soldiers conducted a morning raid in the Arab Jabur neighborhood south of Baghdad, detaining two suspected insurgents and seizing a large weapons cache that included torture instruments.
SPARTANS DETAIN 24, ARREST THREE
BAGHDAD - Paratroopers operating near the cities of Zukaytun, Al Iskandariyah, and Musayyib south of Baghdad detained 24 insurgents and arrested three June 10 and 11.
Paratroopers from 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division also secured three AK-47s and 15 ammunition magazines, one 9mm submachine gun, $2,000 worth of dinar, four sets of body armor, one bag full of numerous fake identification cards, various Iraqi Police, Iraqi Army, and Hillah SWAT camouflage uniforms, six cellular phones, one 9mm submachine gun, 500 rounds of 9mm ammunition, several sets of load-bearing equipment and two computers.
AL-QAEDA MILITARY EMIR OF MOSUL KILLED
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Coalition Forces killed a senior terrorist leader during an operation Tuesday morning targeting the al-Qaeda in Iraq network in Mosul.
Kamal Jalil Bakr 'Uthman, also known as Sa'id Hamza, was known to be the al-Qaeda in Iraq military emir of Mosul. Intelligence reports indicate he planned, coordinated and facilitated suicide bombings in the Mosul area. Additionally, he facilitated the movement of more than 100 foreign fighters through safe houses in the area, and orchestrated attacks against Iraqi and Coalition Forces.
BOMB CELL TERRORISTS CAUGHT RED-HANDED
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Coalition Forces killed two terrorists, detained 13 suspected terrorists and discovered a cache of weapons during operations targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Baghdad car bomb network Wednesday.
Coalition Forces followed two terrorists they witnessed emplacing improvised explosive devices in Baghdad June 12, and raided their bed-down location. As Coalition Forces approached the building, the two known terrorists disregarded the interpreter's instructions and approached the ground force. Reacting appropriately to the perceived threat, Coalition Forces engaged the two men, killing them.
FALLUJAH - Iraqi Army Forces have detained a suspected al Qaeda in Iraq sniper allegedly responsible for the death of a U.S. Soldier and other attacks against Coalition Forces.
With Coalition Forces present as advisers, Iraqi soldiers detained their primary sniper suspect in the Jolan District of Fallujah during a raid June 10. Anti-Coalition Forces propaganda and numerous identification cards were also seized during the operation.
The suspect, who is alleged to be a member of an al Qaeda in Iraq sniper cell operating out of Fallujah, is believed to have killed a U.S. Soldier from a rooftop during a 2006 attack on Coalition Forces in Fallujah. He is also the primary suspect in a sniper attack against a Coalition Forces tractor-trailer which occurred in Fallujah earlier this year.
In a separate operation, Iraqi Army Forces completed an operation June 9 detaining 16 suspected insurgents allegedly responsible for supporting al Qaeda in Iraq activities in the Rawah area.
SIX EXTREMISTS KILLED, 19 OTHERS ARRESTED DURING OPERATIONS THROUGHOUT DIYALA
BAQOUBA, Iraq - The newly formed Diyala Operations Command in Baqouba reported today that Soldiers assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 5th Iraqi Army and Coalition Forces from the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry killed five extremists, wounded eight and arrested 15 others during operations throughout Baqouba, June 12.
The engagement in Old Baqouba also netted two caches and a vehicle borne improvised explosive device.
Gunmen engaged IA and CF Soldiers with small arms fire from a building before a CF attack helicopter team, armed with Hellfire missiles, engaged the extremists and destroyed the building they were firing from.
Another gunman was killed when CF engaged his sniper position in the neighborhood of Mufrek, in Baqouba.
The caches discovered included approximately 200 pounds of home made explosives, numerous anti tank mines, mortar and artillery rounds, and other IED making materials.
The VBIED had a rocket propelled grenade inside, and according to local citizens, was rigged to explode. Two extremists were arrested in the immediate area after testing positive for explosives. A controlled explosion was carried out on the VBIED.
FORWARD OPERATING BASE HAMMER, Iraq - Soldiers from the 3rd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment and the Iraqi National Police detained four men and confiscated bomb-making materials and rifles following a raid in northern Jisr Diyala, Monday.
ONE SECRET CELL TERRORIST KILLED, TWO DETAINED
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Coalition Forces killed one terrorist and detained two suspected terrorists during operations targeting secret cell network operations in Baghdad.
The individuals detained during the raid are believed to be members of the secret cell terrorist network known for facilitating the transport of weapons and explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, from Iran to Iraq, as well as bringing militants from Iraq to Iran for terrorist training.
THREE MILITANTS DETAINED IN KHOWST
BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Afghan and Coalition forces conducted an operation in Nadir Shah Kot District in Khowst Province resulting in detention of three suspected militants.
Credible intelligence led the forces to the location of suspected members of an improvised explosive device cell in the Haqqani network.
