2 Sailors Dead, 1 Wounded In Shooting On Base In Bahrain

There's not much information available on the shooting. They seemed quick to shut down the terrorism theory or base intrusion. I would assume the only explanation is another sailor is responsible.

Two American sailors were shot dead and one was critically wounded at the U.S. navy base in Bahrain, but there were no indications of a terrorist attack, the navy said on Monday.

The shootings took place at about 5 a.m. (10:00 p.m. EDT Sunday), the navy said in a statement, adding that initial reports indicated the incident only involved U.S. military personnel.

"Two sailors were pronounced dead at the scene and the third was taken to local hospital for treatment. There are no indications of terrorism or a base intrusion," the navy said.

The navy gave no explanation for the shootings, which took place in the base's barracks, and said the names of the sailors were being withheld.

Further details were not immediately available, and an investigation was being conducted into the incident.

 ***UPDATE 10/22/07 9:30AM***

A male sailor shot and killed two female sailors. No reports yet if the male sailor shot himself, or was shot.

A U.S. Navy sailor allegedly shot and killed two female sailors early Monday in the barracks of a American military base in Bahrain, a Navy official said.

The alleged shooter, a male, was critically wounded in the shooting at the U.S. Naval Support Activity Bahrain base, said the Navy official, who was not authorized to release the information to the media and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The official did not say if the alleged shooter shot himself or if anyone else was involved, but the Navy said the shooting was not terror related and only involved U.S. military personnel.
